Since its creation in 1986 in London, ISOLBE (International Symposium on Littorinid Biology and Evolution) has brought together the international scientific community around the study of littorinids (family Littorinidae). These gastropod mollusks, ubiquitous on rocky coasts worldwide, constitute particularly attractive study models for marine biology and evolutionary ecology. The ultimate ambition is to make littorinids a reference invertebrate model for evolutionary biology studies, enabling the investigation of fundamental questions about biodiversity and speciation.
During four days of conference, we will discuss recent scientific findings of evolutionary significance within a highly polymorphic group of organisms with remarkable variation in life history traits. We hope to host a diversity of topics such as marine ecology, evolutionary biology, population genetics, ecotoxicology, and developmental biology, all aimed at understanding the fundamental mechanisms underlying their evolution, adaptation, and resilience.
The informal and inspiring scientific atmosphere of ISOLBE enables researchers and students of different disciplines but with a common interest in Littorinids to present their work in a series of talks and posters, as well as opportunities for group discussions/brainstorms on participants-selected topics of interest.
The conference will be in a hybrid format with possibility of attending both in situ or remotely. However, to fully benefit from interactions among researchers we recommend a visit to Roscoff !
